Parks and Gardens in Meerut

Parks and Gardens adorn the city of Meerut as one can find a number of them all over the city. Some of the parks such as the Company Garden, Victoria Park were started during the times of British, while some others came into existence in the recent times. While most of them are managed by the Meeerut Municipal Corporation the others that are located near the Cantonment area are managed by the Cantonment Board. They serve as great recreational spot and is popular with people of all age groups. Some of the popular parks and gardens in Meerut are as follows:

Gandhi Bagh in Meerut

Garden in MeerutThis garden is also called as company garden and is located in the Cantonment area of Meerut. A musical fountain show takes place every evening, and this garden is popular among all age groups. There is no entrance fee and the park is open throughout the day. The Company Garden is called by this name as it was a popular recreational spot for the British. This park houses a huge cricket ground that was meant for the use by the British, which is now used as a walking ground or a running ground. A bugle call every morning at 5.30 signifies the wake-up call, the tradition that has been followed for the past 200 years. The Gandhi Bagh has a number of Banyan trees and a lush green surrounding that makes it popular among all age groups. The Spring Festival show, a flower exhibition, is organized every year that attracts people from all over.

Suraj Kund Park in Meerut

The Suraj Kund Park is popular for its lush and green surroundings close to the Suraj Kund Lake. With number of temples such as Chandi Devi Temple, Baba Manoharnath temple, historical monuments like the Shahpeer's Dargah are also present in the vicinity. It is presently maintained by the Meerut Nagar Nigam and is popular for the number of recreational and amusement facilities in and around this place.

Victoria Park in Meerut

The Victoria Park has played a significant role in the freedom struggle of 1857. Nearly 85 Indian soldiers were imprisoned in the jail here for refusing to use the cartridges made by the British. The Bhama Shah Cricket Academy is located close to and as an extension of the Victoria Park that is called as Victoria Park Cricket Academy.

The Ram Park

This park is maintained by the Cantonment board of Meerut and is located close to the Army quarters. It houses a diverse flora and fauna and ample recreation and amusement facilities for people of all age groups. One of the main highlights of this park is the giant statue of dinosaur that is a favorite among children.

Meerut Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden was established in 1970 inside the campus of Meerut University. Known for its diverse variety of flora, they have a large collection of medicinal plants as well. Most of the plants that are present in the Indo-Gangetic plains have been preserved here at the garden. The total area of this garden is spread over 8 hectares of land.
